The split between Papaïchton and Grand-Santi dates back to 1992. The whole covered an area of 474,000 ha, of which 212,000 were for Grand-Santi. Village of about 6 000 inhabitants, you will easily have the opportunity to meet them. They are mainly N'Djukas as well as some Surinamese refugees. Difficult to access, because it is at least half a day's pirogue ride from airports or larger cities, Air Guyane has opened a Cayenne-Grand-Santi route (1h45), which should allow the village to develop. Grand-Santi is a small village with trees on the banks of the river and is a good place to stop when going down or up the Maroni.
