Situated on the banks of the Maroni River, the small Amerindian village of Espérance is a recommended stopover for an afternoon, a night or even several nights, to fully recharge your batteries. Located at equal distance from Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni and Maripasoula, the pirogues making the round trip between these two towns necessarily pass through Espérance, so you should be able to get there relatively easily. There are two very pleasant carbets: the carbet Postou, with its hammocks stretched under the shelter of a yurt, and the Palambala, more rustic but with a museum of insects endemic to the area.
