In this house, Francis I would have spent a night. This is only a pretty legend. Nevertheless, the Maison François Ier, which it is more appropriate to name Claude Chamoncel's Residence, is a remarkable example of Renaissance architecture with beautiful medallions and a testimony to the economic prosperity of the Saint-Etienne merchants of the 16th century. Claude Chamoncel, owner of this Renaissance house, made his fortune in the armoury. Inside, a monumental fireplace and fern ceilings bring an exceptional refinement. This house can be visited during the European Heritage Days and Archaeology Days.
