AVEN D'ORGNAC - GRAND SITE DE FRANCE

Grand Site de l'Aven d'Orgnac, classified as a Grand Site de France with its cave and museum, invites you to discover the heart of the Earth.
The impressive Aven d'Orgnac, a natural jewel built over 100 million years, is undoubtedly one of the most moving underground formations in the region, if not the country. It was carved out of the Bois de Ronze massif, shaped by the surrounding streams that feed an underground aquatic network. Classified as a "Grand Site de France", the pot hole takes us to the heart of the earth - we have to descend 700 steps, but an elevator takes us up, where the temperature fluctuates between 11 and 13°C - in three rooms, each more sumptuous than the last. Accompanied by an expert guide, we discover the astonishing decors formed by nature over time. Piles of plates, giant palm trees, dragon's teeth: the cave is full of mysteries. You'll be moved by the beauty of the gigantic rooms, and surprised in the last room. It's a magical, out-of-this-world experience. On leaving the cave, which has never been inhabited by man, it's time to visit the Musée Régional de la Préhistoire, where you can discover the riches of the Ardèche through a successful museography with showcases and reconstructions of scenes that will appeal to young and old alike. An extraordinary site in a superb natural setting, with a store stocked with all the finest local products. A grandiose visit. In summer, the classic tours are complemented by other activities: flint knapping, skin tanning...
