Orgnac-l'Aven is located in southern Ardèche, between the Ardèche gorges and the Cèze gorges, on the border of the Gard department. This village of 600 inhabitants is known for its cave explored for the first time in 1935, and which took the name of the village (Aven d'Orgnac). This very touristy site is located 2 km northwest of the town. The commune has several other caves and cavities that were occupied by man (the baume de Ronze or Orgnac II, the Aven d'Orgnac III and others of lesser importance). Apart from the Aven d'Orgnac, classified as a Grand Site de France since 2004, the other archaeological sites cannot be visited.
