Ecomuseum featuring ochre washing basins, the kiln and 3 color mills on a 5-hectare estate.

It is in the Mathieu de Roussillon ochre factory, created in 1921, that the Conservatory of ochre and colour was set up in 1994, run all year round by the "ôkhra" cultural cooperative. You will discover alone or in accompanied visits the ochre washing basins, the oven and the 3 colour mills (one red and 2 yellow) on a 5 ha estate. From April to October, a watercolour discovery area is set up and demonstrations of paint making take place.

Excellent cours sur l’ocre, on a appris à faire nos propres pastels à partir de l’ocre très ludique pour les enfants, à faire si on est de passage dans la région

This museum/cultural place is very intrasting, place is run by pasionate people, it is very intrasting as much for adults as for kids, apart from learning history and production proces you can take part in workshops and create your own paint or painting. This place is really worth visiting.

Visite top avec de belles explications sur l'histoire de l'ocre et des métiers qui l'entoure ! Top avec un enfant de 10ans très instructif et accessible.

We visited the museum and participated in the guided tour where the excellent guide provided us with a lot of information in a very living and fascinating way about the production of ochre. We also could visit the shop and a 8-year-old girl just loved the paints we bought her. Now I know that arabicum was used in the production. I warmly recommend the museum to everybody - and I wish I had a link to the shop ;)
