This site is an important migratory crossroads for birds

As early as the 19th century, work to protect the site from the floods of the Rhône led to the first developments of the site. In 1947, the Donzère-Mondragon canal was built. In 1979, the first extraction of aggregates began. From 1987 to 2015, exploitation of the alluvial quarry. The site has been colonized by a remarkable fauna and flora, which is now the subject of a management and development plan. It is therefore an important migratory crossroads for birds.
