André Benedetto, who passed away in 2009, is the reason why this venue has become so legendary, particularly on the Off circuit. He initiated the Off almost by chance, with the play Statues, which marked the beginning of a completely connected and engaged theater, in direct contact with political and historical events. Today, the artistic project of the theater, renamed "Théâtre des Carmes André Benedetto", remains a theater of text and words.
