Ruins of the Château d'Hyères with a breathtaking view of the Golden Islands, perched on the hill and classified as historical monuments
Perched on the hill, the ruins of the Castle of Hyères are part of the postcard images of the city and can be easily seen from the historic center. Built in the 11th century on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 190 meters, the castle of Hyères was one of the largest castles in Provence. It was redesigned by CharlesI of Anjou in 1257 and dismantled by Henri IV during the wars of religion. Then it was razed by order of Louis XIII. Classified as a historical monument, it presents important vestiges and offers an impregnable view on the Golden Islands.
