A brilliant work by Swiss architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, known as Le Corbusier, Le Corbusier's Cité Radieuse in Marseille

Enter an architecturally and historically rare building. Inaugurated in 1952, this ingenious work by Swiss architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret dit Le Corbusier, was born on a vacant lot. It is there that this veritable collective housing bar emerges, in the glorious era of all rough concrete. A symbol of modern architecture, "La Maison du Fada" as it was quickly nicknamed by many Marseilles residents, is supported by 17 porticos and weighs more than 50,000 tons. A real challenge. Unlike the horizontal city devouring space, the building will be vertical. 9 floors, 18 levels for 334 duplex apartments, nested two by two for better soundproofing, is the idea of the construction. They will all be equipped with multicoloured terraces and loggias to let in the light. Shops, social services (school, crèche, post office, chapel) and leisure areas (sports hall, bar, hotel, restaurant, gallery...), everything has been designed for the inhabitants (about 1,500). Stroll through the corridors of another time, appreciate the details of sculpture and stained glass windows in the heart of the building. Even without being sensitive to contemporary architecture, a detour through the radiant city will take you back to what was the avant-garde and ideal design of a certain era when community living was a predominant concept. However, please be discreet during your visit so as not to disturb the inhabitants.

The visit is not necessarily want to living, the dark corridors evoke a prison universe. The narrow and low apartments ceiling miss volume and light. A designer architecture and lifestyle together without any doubt revolutionary but not really attractive!
Not to be missed, a unique experience. It is best to visit an apartment but you need to book near the Tourist Office
