Very comfortable, modern, historic hotel with apartments and terraces and a magnificent view of the Old Port.

Located on a street near the Old Port, this historic hotel (the very first in Marseille, they say) got a nice facelift with a new decor in 2016. The rooms are bright and some have a magnificent view of the Old Port. The junior suites (duplex) have a balcony. Also two apartments with terrace. At the hotel bar, you can enjoy a cocktail or a good Provence wine. A very nice address to discover Marseille!

So many good things offset partially by location. We drove to Marseille from Burgundy. There was an accident that blocked getting to the hotel (only one real way to get there and you cannot drive up to the hotel). This added 90minutes of sitting traffic to our drive. When we arrived, the staff was 'fine'. They were not overly helpful and one person was in training. I asked for help with my bags while my husband tried to navigate traffic to park. The location is NOT our favorite of the trip. While the port is right there, it just doesn't feel safe. The little area near the hotel had lots of sketchy people. Most establishments were closed. It just didn't feel like the other places we had visited in France. On the other hand, there were two showers that both could run at the same time and not lose water pressure, the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast was awesome. So we liked the hotel, but did not love the area. We wound up checking out one day early and heading to NICE.

Surtout si l'on y reste plusieurs nuits.

We spent 3 nights in Grand Hôtel Beauvau Marseille before our river cruise. We stayed in one of the suites with the balcony overlooking the port. The hotel had a Boutique charm, spacious rooms and lovely views. One disappointment was the facilities.. The bar, assume for only residents (as we were only ones ever one there) and the restaurant served only breakfast which we hadn't realised it was not included in our stay. We were charged 56euros per breakfast, and only had croissants and coffee (if it was made clearer, we probably wouldn't have bothered).
