The small town of Saulgé is located 6 km from Montmorillon. Crossed by the Gartempe river, Saulgé has a rich and varied natural heritage, since nine Natural Zones (ZNIEFF) are located there and cover 46% of the commune's territory, including the Hospice wood which shelters several rare and protected animal species. Inhabited since the Merovingian period, its heritage is interesting thanks to several buildings: the medieval castle of Beaupuy from the 13th century with its English-style park, the keep still remains from the old castle, the Age of Plaisance which is a fortified house, the church of Saulgé which is dedicated to Saint-Divitien, in Romanesque style.
