THE STING BAY

It is one of the symbolic landscapes of the Charente-Maritime and the Vendée. These 5 000 hectares of fertile mudflats and salt meadows refer us to the image of the Poitevin Marsh in Roman times: a huge marine gulf of almost 100 000 ha - the Gulf of Pictons - subjected to siltation. The Bay is Organizing today around four major landscapes: mudflats, the banks of the Lecourbe Niortaise, dunes and pebble cords. As a result of a walk, you will probably have the chance to observe some of the bird species that settle here for a winter - especially at Pointe Saint-Clement in Esnandes. You will also see oak piles planted in the foreshore and covered with moulds because the Stimulus Bay is the cradle of mussel culture. The seafood gardeners cultivate one of the department's flagship products that shaped the history of several cities: Charron, Marsilly, Esnandes. There are now more than 200 different recipes to cook this famous shell!
