ROCK TOWERS
An old tower facing the Atlantic, used as both arsenal and prison, with the Tour de la Chaîne opposite.
Facing the Atlantic, these stone fortresses are the emblem of the city and have watched over the Old Port for centuries. Built in the 14th century, the Tour Saint-Nicolas served as both arsenal and prison. Weakened and closed to the public, it has had to undergo several phases of work in order to be stabilized. Facing it is the smaller Tour de la Chaîne. It owes its name to the chain that closed the harbor passage. The other tower is located near the parapet walk. Carefully renovated, it stands out for its bright color and spire.
