CHALON FIELD MOUNDS

Discovered in 1979, the mounds are located in the north of the Benon à Courçon forest. They are composed of 5 necropolises. These stone mounds correspond to the remains of a collective burial ground, in other words dolmens. All are quadrangular in their final form and research has shown that in each monument there was a burial chamber and its access corridor. During excavations, only a few remains of the deceased were found, accompanied by few objects, including ceramics ("support vases") attributable to the Atlantic Chasséan.
