Museum in Nay, retracing the saga of the beret, and presenting old machines, with a store with a range of berets

Emblem of France and especially of the Basque Country and Bearn, the beret was born between Nay and Oloron. Its museum retraces the saga of the beret since the time when it was knitted and fulled by hand and presents old machines. A film concludes the visit by giving the floor to those who lived the history of the beret. And you will know how it is worn from the Landes to the Basque Country and the mood it signifies... The store offers the range of berets "Laulhere heritage", made in the local factory according to tradition. Nice discovery of a local craft.

Bicycle reception. Open all year round. Open: January to March, Monday, 1:30pm to 6pm and Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 12pm and 1:45pm to 6pm. April to December, Monday, 2pm to 6pm; Tuesday to Friday, 9:30am to 12pm and 1:30pm to 6pm; Saturday, 9:30am to 12:30pm. July and August, Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 6pm, Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm. Free admission. Groups: €3.50 / person (must be booked 15 days in advance). Accessible to 2/3 disabled visitors, reduced rate. Store selling Oloron-Sainte-Marie berets, from €28.60 to €87.50.

Petit musée sympathique. C'est très intéressant de voir les différentes phases de fabrications du béret et notamment de voir les machines fonctionner ainsi que les différentes affiches publicitaires autour du béret et les clichés des illustres porteurs de bérets !!
Possibilité d'acheter le béret qui nous correspond à 100% !!

Tribute to our emblematic cap! A warm welcome in the fascinating shop, difficult to resist the fixtures and souvenir purchase so there is something for everyone. Small film well fact where you will learn the different paths of carrying it depending on occasions, personalities etc. the charm of the place and the machines of yesteryear operates. For after a round the beautiful market Nay (Tuesday and Saturday mornings) where the berets of the neighbouring villages are out!
