THE AULT LIGHTHOUSE
The Ault lighthouse is one of the most imposing in France, standing 28 metres above the ground.
This lighthouse is one of the most imposing in France, standing 28 metres above the ground and 110 metres above the sea if you count the height of the cliff on which it stands. It was rebuilt and put into service in 1951, following its dynamiting in 1940. It is automated and controlled from Saint-Valery. It's free to visit, and takes just half an hour. The site also offers magnificent views of the coast and cliffs, but beware of the weather and wind! The surrounding area can be reached via a coastal walk.
