THE DEWAILLY CLOCK
From Place Gambetta to Place Dusevel, the Dewailly clock, with its famous shirtless Marie, bears witness to the passage of time.
In 1892, Louis Dewailly bequeathed 25,000 francs to the city of Amiens to build a clock for the modest inhabitants of Amiens. Inaugurated in 1896, it was accompanied by the statue "Le Printemps", quickly nicknamed Marie sans chemise. After several destructions, notably during the Second World War, the clock was dismantled, and the statue was installed in Place Dusevel in 1965. In 2000, the clock was rebuilt identically, with a modern satellite control system. Today, it is a symbol of Amiens' heritage.
