The chapel of Berraute belonged to a commandery dependent on the order of the Knights of Malta
Probably built in the 11th century, the Berraute chapel belonged to a commandery belonging to the Knights of Malta. Pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela found refuge here, or were treated in an adjoining hospital. It became a parish church when the village was founded. Remodeled in the 16th century, it resembled the churches of Soule, with its calvary steeple. Abandoned then restored, it was saved from total destruction in 1983 by the local council. The chapel still watches over the cemetery.
