Royal forest which constitutes a place of choice for a walk far from the city in a unique setting in Compiègne.
The forest covers 14,357 hectares, making it one of the largest state-owned forests in France. It offers a diversity of landscapes and, thanks to over 1,000 km of roads and paths, is ideal for walks and hikes. Historically, it is marked by the armistices of 1918 and 1940, signed in the clearing at Rethondes. Today, the forest is also the site of peace gardens, symbolizing international brotherhood. The site is home to remarkable biodiversity, with a varied fauna including deer and wild boar.
