LA VEILLE CASSINE
Stroll through the pedestrian streets, stopping at the foot of the Vieille Cassine to see one of the town's oldest houses
Take time to stroll through the pedestrian streets and stop at the foot of the Vieille Cassine to observe one of the town's oldest (half-timbered) houses, a vestige of medieval Compiègne. Built in the 15th century, it was long home to the Maîtres du Pont, supervisors of the Compagnons de l'Arche, responsible for guiding boats under the old Pont Saint-Louis. Today, the historic mansion houses a restaurant serving northern dishes - a good excuse to step inside! It rubs shoulders with the local merchants, notably those of the nearby Halle de l'Ancien grenier à sel.
