Every year, a schoolgirl rider takes on the role of Joan of Arc in a grand historical parade, paying homage to her time in Compiègne. In May 1430, when she came to defend the besieged town, she was captured and handed over to the English. This celebration, initiated in 1909 and made an annual event in 1976, features a medieval market and camp, a night show on Saturday and a parade on Sunday. Children enjoy a variety of activities, including safe sword fighting, calligraphy, street shows and blacksmith demonstrations.
