Set in the church of the old Récollets convent, which houses the town hall today, this collection brings together Raymond Pillon's local discoveries (1889-1977) for almost half a century. This passionate archaeologist and amateur paleontologist collected fossils and stones in the Chaumontois. We are surprised to see that shells, corals and shark teeth are being presented! They actually date back to the time when the Parisian Basin was under a warm ocean (between 35 and 80 million years before our era). The museum also features tools from the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman times… You will also find in the museum of reconstituted seals, drawings, old plans of the city or even models of medieval fortifications or elements of the Renaissance era…
