A lovely walk to discover Father Armand David's collections of animals, plants, rocks and fossils
Father Armand David, born in Espelette in 1826, was one of the greatest French naturalists of the 19th century. An eminent zoologist and botanist, he spent his entire life collecting animals, plants and fossils in China. Some 70 scientific identifications of plant species bear his name. He brought the existence of the giant panda to the attention of the Western world. The commune has created a young arboretum (specialized botanical garden) planted exclusively with Chinese trees. A lovely walk.
