St. Julian's Cathedral in the center of the city, home to some of the world's most beautiful medieval stained glass windows

The Cathedral of St. Julian sits majestically in the centre of the city. It was named in the 9th century after the first evangelizer of the city, Julian. Inside the cathedral, a stained glass window with his image represents him; his relics are in the sanctuary. St Julian's Cathedral has some of the most beautiful medieval stained glass windows in the world, such as the Ascension window. You can also admire one of the peaks of Western Gothic painting: the Concert of 47 Angel Musicians, which was painted in the 14th century on the vaults of the chapel.

Magnifique cathédrale au cœur du quartier historique du Mans. Superbe. Ne pas manquer sur le coin droit de la façade lorsque l’on fait face à la cathédrale, la fameuse pierre saint Julien. C’est un menhir en grès qui possède un orifice au tiers de sa hauteur environ : le nombril du Mans. L’orifice est bien poli car d’après la légende, les filles qui enfoncent leur doigt dans ce trou seront particulièrement fécondes. Le menhir lui-même est un monument historique. Un nouvel et bel exemple du mélange, ou du recyclage constant des traditions, croyances et religions.
Un conseil, privilégier les parkings souterrains qui sont nombreux et très abordables en particulier après 19h.

Je vais souvent à la cathédrale et chaque fois je me laisse surprendre. La chapelle des Anges Musiciens a ma préférence, peinture si lumineuse. Depuis 2013, une immense croix (de l'artiste Goudgi) suspendue à plus de 10 mètres dans le choeur de la cathédrale nous offre un Christ immense nous ouvrant les bras.
Le seul inconvénient de notre si belle cathédrale est qu'elle est humide l'hiver ! Mais il suffit de bien s'habiller !

Saint Julien Cathedral du Mans is located in the heart of the Plantagenêt city and close to the city center. It dominates the city because it is located in the ancient Gallo Roman compound, overlooking Sarthe. The building is very well preserved and magnificent both inside and outside.

Magnifique cathédrale imposante et surplombant la place des Jacobins. Située dans la vieille ville entourée d'enceinte gallo-romaine.
L'intérieur est également superbe avec sa nef, ses vitraux ...
A voir absolument au moment des Nuits des Chimères (à deux périodes de l'année) : projection d'images sur différents monuments de la ville
