PLANK ISLAND
Read moreLocated near the city centre and South station, this small urban park is the most recent of the city since its construction dates back to 2008. It owes its name to the fact that it connects the two banks of the Sarthe, between the two arms of that river. An amphitheatre and a playground have been set up. A large grassland, below, serves as a spillway in the event of flooding. The construction project would not have been created without the determination of the members of the association of the Island aux Planches. The land belonged to EDF, and their wish was to cede it to promoters for a real estate project (two columns, at the entrance to the park, evoke EDF and SFM).
ROMAN ENCLOSURE
Read moreBuilt more than 1,700 years ago, when Le Mans was still called Vindinum, it is a unique monument of its kind in France. Today, every summer night, the Chimeras Night gives fantastic colors, by light projection, to this magical place of the old town: to observe from the wharves of Sarthe.
