THE SAINT ANN'S FOUNTAIN
The cult of Saint Anne was initiated and spread by Saint Philbert, then Abbot of Noirmoutier, to the point of making it one of the main cults of the Pays de Retz. Many pilgrims came to pray at the miraculous fountain dedicated to the mother of Mary, known to relieve ophthalmic disorders. The water from the fountain would indeed make it possible to recover sight, but not in the first sense, ophthalmological, because it is not a question of ocular vision but of spiritual vision, of knowledge. The fountain would thus allow access to the third eye, the one that opens the doors of spirituality and wisdom. After the processions, it was customary for pilgrims to take away bandaged pots with a beak and a handle called "drinks", which had the advantage of keeping the water fresh.
