SAINT-NAZAIRE BRIDGE
One of Europe's largest cable-stayed bridges, opened in Saint-Nazaire on October 18, 1975.
Commissioned in 1975, the Saint-Nazaire bridge is the longest in France, with a total length of 3,356 m. The cable-stayed bridge spans the Loire estuary between Saint-Nazaire and Saint-Brévin, reaching a height of 61 m. At the time of its construction, it held a world record for the span of a cable-stayed bridge. It replaced the river ferries, remnants of which remain. Access has been free since 1994. The speed limit is 70 km/h, and traffic may be banned in high winds. Since 2010, a system unique in France has enabled the lanes to be adapted according to traffic levels.
