THE KURUN
On September 19, 1949, Jacques-Yves Le Toumelin left Le Croisic, in general indifference, for a round of the world on this ten-meter boat. It is built at Leroux yards, on Dervin plans, on the principle of the naval architect Colin Archer. With a auric stripe, it was designed not for speed but for safety, road stability and easy to be skipped by a single man. Faced with Kurun (thunder in Breton), the terrien contemplates the history of the pioneers of the world's towers sailing: Slocum, Gerbault, Dumas, Bernicot and Van de Wiele. Jacques-Yves Le Toumelin and his friends created the association des Amis du Kurun in 1986. The aim is to renovate the ship. So he came out of his 26-year-old forced wintering. It takes no less than 3,500 hours of work and a team of volunteers to save the Kurun. It was placed in May 1991 and the boat was classified as a historic monument in 1993. To navigate this boat with spartate comfort, you must join and support the association Les Amis du Kurun.
