The Departmental Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for fire prevention, protection and control. It ensures the protection of people, property and the environment. Its mission is to provide emergency assistance to victims of accidents, disasters or catastrophes, as well as to evacuate them. It also intervenes in the prevention and evaluation of civil security risks. And it sets up the preparation of the safeguard measures and the organization of the means of help. The S.D.I.S. is made up of 3,962 volunteer firemen, 715 professional firemen, 93 fire and rescue centres and more than 73,000 interventions per year.
