1 km from La Baule, the Château de Careil is a privileged witness to the evolution of Breton architecture from the 14th to the 16th century. Listed as a Historic Monument, this fortified dwelling began life as a defensive site in the 14th century, complete with sentry walk and machicolation. The seigneury of Careil is attested as early as 1471. Other parts were subsequently added, including a main building in the 16th century, in a style characteristic of the Breton Renaissance. In the second half of the 16th century, the seigneury belonged to Jean du Bouays, who played an active role in the Wars of Religion. Driven out of Le Croisic, the Huguenots retreated to Careil, which was not without its troubles. The château and its grounds offer the public a variety of tours and activities for children based on bygone days, with costumed characters, fencing, riddles, fun tests and more.

Ah oui bon le petit passage sur la Bretagne tout le monde n est pas du même avis .. il est juste dommage d apprendre aux touristes que la loire atlantique est en Bretagne.... même si historiquement cela a été le cas ce n est plus géographiquement aujourd'hui la réalité :)
