On the site of a former mining pit, this museum has a beautiful "Gallery of Time" on 3,000 with free access.

Opened in December 2012, the Louvre-Lens has quickly become a must-see in the former mining basin. It is the second most visited museum in the region! Its glass building was designed by Japanese architects Sanaa and houses a selection of prestigious works from the Louvre. The museum's star attraction? The Galerie du Temps. Spanning 3,000m2 in a single 120-metre section, it presents 5,000 years of history (from the invention of writing to the mid-19th century) in a very soothing atmosphere. You can also use the museum app to learn more about the works, and every year, on the anniversary of its creation, the museum renews the works on display! The glass pavilion, bathed in light, invites you to take a break in front of the park designed by French landscape architect Catherine Mosbach. Temporary exhibitions are regularly scheduled: the 2025 season was inaugurated with an exhibition on artists facing exile! Louvre-Lens also caters for children and families, with specially adapted facilities and guided tours from 9 months (!) upwards. The museum is also a living space in its own right, with a media library open to all, a well-stocked resource center and visible reserves. To get there, take the train: the Louvre-Lens transport pass offers a 50% discount on the journey and a discount on exhibitions. Buses run between Lens station and the museum, which can also be reached via a landscaped path.
