THE BUILDING
A square tower of 3 floors that housed 3 dungeons on top of each other.
Built in the 16th century, the belfry was destroyed in 1639 by a French shell during the Thirty Years' War. Thanks to a bequest from a private individual, it was restored over 200 years later. It's a 3-storey square tower that housed 3 dungeons on top of each other. A two-ton bell sits at the top. It is one of 23 buildings in the region listed as a World Heritage Site. It cannot be visited, but the municipal museum housed in the dungeons traces the evolution of the town and its belfry. Admission is free, through the tourist office.
