Bronze sculpture installed in Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, one of Rodin's most famous works in Calais.
It is one of Rodin's most famous works! Commissioned by the city to the artist, the bronze sculpture was originally installed in 1895, in front of the Richelieu Park. It was not moved to the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville until after the Second World War. This sculpture immortalizes the sacrifice of six burghers who, in 1347, after a trying siege, gave Edward III, King of England, the keys to the city. Their lives were saved thanks to the intervention of Philippa de Hainaut, the king's wife. The work is strikingly realistic and fascinating!

Très belle oeuvre de Rodin, facilement ratable car entre le parking et la route. On a tendance à se tourner vers le majestueux hôtel de ville.

Fait partie de l'histoire de la ville donc incontournable, c'est juste devant l'hôtel de ville et devant le grand parking on a tendance à ne pas remarquer cette statue pas si imposante que cela.
