Calais is part of the personal history of General de Gaulle. It was in 1921, in the church of Notre-Dame, that he married the Calaisian Yvonne Vendroux. The city will remain dear to their hearts. The general returned there officially on two occasions in 1959 and 1966, unofficially much more often! An association has had a stele engraved next to the building where he was married. The monumental sculpture of Yvonne and Charles de Gaulle located on the Place d'Armes was erected at the end of 2013.

Très belle statue. Les traits des personnages sont très doux et leurs visages souriants. Ils semblent marcher tranquillement sur la place....Comme une impression de bonheur !
