FORMER ALDERMAN
A former alderman's residence with remarkable domed towers, a true artistic gem in the taste of the Flemish Renaissance.
Designed by Nicolas Du Bois, the échevinage was also nicknamed the "Prieuré", as it served as the entrance to the abbey. It housed the town's courtrooms and prisons, and was surrounded by a surrounding wall. It is a true artistic gem in the Flemish Renaissance style, with its domed towers and sandstone basement facade. The first floor housed the prisons, and its rooms were pierced by tiny openings overlooking the Grand-Place. The second floor features paintings by Louis Watteau.
