CITÉ DU GODION
A town of 77 dwellings built in 1950 after the nationalization of the coal mines in 1946, a must-see place to visit
These 77 homes were built in 1950, after the nationalization of all coal mines in 1946. This Groupe de Douai project is the most recent of the neighborhood's workers' housing estates. It represents the culmination of this type of industrialization, with a modern housing estate of identical houses. All follow the functionalist principles of the architecture of the time, and are built on one level, each with a private garden. Unesco considers it to be emblematic of these modern workers' housing estates.
