Collegiate church of Gothic style which imposed its rectangular shape with straight chevet in Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel
Initiated in 1328, the narrowness of the citadel forced the construction of the flamboyant Gothic collegiate church of Saint-Maur inside the fortress. Leaning against the wall, facing north-south, it imposed its rectangular shape with a straight chevet. Its bell tower was built inside one of the defensive towers of the medieval enclosure. The 11th-century chapel, part of the former Benedictine monastery, houses a 16th-century polychrome altarpiece. Carved in stone by Ligier Richier, it depicts three scenes from the Passion of Christ. Grüber's stained glass windows were installed after the Second World War. The adjacent cloister was built in the 15th century. Until 1845, it housed the cemetery within its walls. All that remains is a five-bay gallery with trefoil windows. The Gothic keystones bear the arms of Bishop Guillaume de Haroncourt. Like the church, it has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1992.
