CHAIR DOOR
One of the first monuments to be seen in downtown Verdun, this Gothic-style building was designed by Jean Wautrec.
An imposing tower at the entrance to the city, it majestically dominates the quays of London. The official entrance to the city since its construction in the 14th century, the Tour Chaussée was a defensive element of the Grand Rempart that encircled Verdun in the Middle Ages. It was donated to the city by the bourgeois Wautrec. It symbolizes Verdun's new status as a "free imperial city" in 1374. For your information: you can only admire it from the outside, but don't miss out on some remarkable features: drawbridge mechanism, ornaments, gargoyles..
