Undertaking the complete redevelopment of Verdun's fortification, Vauban conceived between 1680 and 1687 that defensive system designed to cause flooding. This system never served in wartime. This bridge is the only one in France to still own its manœuvres building with its intact mechanism.

If you are lucky like me to take a guided tour of this place (free), you will be fill with enthusiasm by the state of preservation and the purpose of this building that was to flood the surrounding plain to protect the city.
