Lastours's site bears witness to several periods of occupation, but it is in the Middle Ages that the Puissante, the powerful noble family of the region, come into history, the most famous being Gouffier, the "Lion to the Lion" hero of the first crusade. Two of the three feudal sods remain, the first wooden castles left stone. The remains of the imposing castle, composed of a th century dungeon and buildings dated th in the th century, attest to the importance and splendour of this building, which will be the title of the "first baronnie of Limousin". The fortress, abandoned since 1783, has been the subject of a volunteer site since 1919 to safeguard the ruins. A Garden of the Year Mil has been reconstructed. The Aspel association organizes every summer celebrations rich in animations: Great medieval feast with music, time costume dances, armor, shields, fighting, night show for a whole weekend in August, discovery of crossbow shooting and medieval arc in camps animated by the knights of Lastours, track game, Mystery and Riddles, night visits in light of torches. A whole celebration program for damoiseaux and damsels. On July 23rd, for Sainte-Marguerite, the castle's embrasement is very impressive.
