LIMOGES MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
Museum of Fine Arts housing an important collection of enamels and the reconstruction of a remarkable Gallo-Roman city.
Since the renovation of the Musée de l'Evêché in December 2010, the presentation of the permanent collections has become more fluid and easier to understand. The works are now presented on 2,000 square metres and it is more enjoyable to focus on a particular painting. The visit is free and is divided into four departments: Egyptian antiquities, history of Limoges, fine arts and enamels. The BAL houses one of the ten most important collections of painted enamels in the world, in particular medieval champlevé and Renaissance painted enamels. The Egyptology section has 2,000 pieces. The fine arts department is also worthy of interest. Firstly for the paintings of regional artists such as Auguste Renoir (born in Limoges), Suzanne Valladon (mother of Marcel Utrillo, born in Bessines-sur-Gartempe) or Armand Guillaumin (an eminent representative of the Crozant school known for his landscapes of the Creuse), but also because one can admire paintings by Fernand Léger, Eugène Delacroix, Raoul Dufy or Suzanne Lalique. The archaeological sector allows you to discover Augustoritum, the Gallo-Roman city reconstituted in a giant model. For further discovery: a temporary exhibition room, an auditorium with screenings and lectures, guided walks, cultural activities in the exhibition rooms, games, workshops for children and activities for families...
J'ai constaté que depuis cette année l'office de tourisme de Limoges propose une carte Pass visite qui permet pour un coût modique de visiter à volonté plusieurs sites.
