MUSÉE RENÉ BAUBEROT
Museum of folk art and traditions, with archaeological remains testifying to human occupation of the commune
More than a museum, it's a living, breathing place where the past is told with humanity. A must for understanding the soul of the Limousin region. In this former Benedictine priory, discover seventeen rooms featuring rich and varied collections: archaeology, heritage and local history, life in the Limousin, crafts... From prehistoric tools to medieval burial chests, the museum reveals real treasures. The reconstitution of a 1900 classroom, a peasant kitchen, a craftsman's workshop or the peasant and bourgeois life of yesteryear (with its costumes, furniture and utensils) will captivate young and old alike.
Hortense, Valérie and Célia will be your guides on this journey through time. Every day at 2pm, they offer an hour-long guided tour, with three themes:
"History": from prehistory to the 19th century, via the Gallo-Roman and medieval eras, discover the strong personalities linked to the town and the history of this building.
"Life in the Limousin": Limousin housing, food, everyday objects, rural and middle-class clothing..
"Our forgotten trades": agriculture, crafts and trades of the past, for both men and women.
The tour calendar is available for booking on the website. During the school vacations, the Notre Terroir association also offers workshops for children (aged 6 to 12): calligraphy, photomontage... A real goldmine!
