A place of the imagination, part of Lac Vassivière in Beaumont-du-lac.
Artificial creation since the EDF dam was put in water (more than 60 years ago), it is the place of all imaginations. It is part of the lake of Vassivière which is of 1000ha. There is a renaissance castle, a farm, an international contemporary art centre, a ship and its lighthouse out of water, and a sculpture park for walking. Vassivière Island has a shop selling regional products and a restaurant. Water and land activities such as hiking, horseback riding, walking, biking or donkey rides are scheduled.

Originality
L'île de Vassivière trône au beau milieu du lac du même nom. On y accède à pieds ou en petit train, ce qui renforce son côté "inaccessible". Elle est l'élément incontournable du lac car elle abrite l'ancien château, un petit jardin de simples, le Centre international d'art et du Paysage et surtout le parc de sculptures en plein air. Même si certaines œuvres ont mal vieilli, j'invite les amateurs de Landart à le visiter (mon préféré étant le mur de pierres sèches de granit, de la terre à l'eau d' Andy Goldsworthy)
