A former abbey with a Romanesque church with three naves and a 12th century bell tower, transformed into a cultural center in Vertheuil.
Saint-Pierre Abbey was founded in the 11th century by William VIII of Aquitaine. It housed a community of canons of the Order of Saint Augustine. Devastated several times during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion, it was extensively remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries. Several buildings bear witness to this past: the Romanesque church, the 12th-century bell tower, the 18th-century abbey buildings and the remains of the chapter house. Today, it serves as a cultural center and houses the Petit Musée d'Automates.
