CHAPELLE DU SAILLANT
Built between 1620 and 1624, the Chapelle du Saillant, the only one of its kind in France, is entirely decorated with stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall. The chapel was commissioned by Guy de Lasteyrie du Saillant, a descendant of the local builders. Chagall combined colored and grisaille windows to play with light. Painted between 1978 and 1982 by Charles Marq and Brigitte Simon from his models, the six stained-glass windows are finished by the artist's own hand: Chagall himself does the finishing touches. This was the last stained-glass project to be installed and completed during the master's lifetime.
