A remarkable metal house listed as a Historic Monument, a marvel to be discovered in Poissy.
Built in 1896, the Maison de Fer is a villa designed according to a system conceived by Belgian architect Joseph Danly. A rare example of the architectural creativity of the Industrial Revolution, this metal house is a landmark of Pisciac's heritage, often nicknamed "the Eiffel house" in reference to the importance of metal in its construction. Commissioned by Georges de Coninck, it has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1975. Its exterior walls are composed of 550 one-millimeter-thick panels, which are pressed and bonded together to ensure the structure's rigidity. The roof was originally clad in corrugated sheet metal - unheard of at the time - with a zinc ridge cap and decorative metal mantling on the gables. A small metal bell tower covered the center of the building. For several years, the Maison de Fer was abandoned, then blown down by the storm of 1999. Acquired by the City in 2016, it was decided to rebuild the house identically within Parc Meissonier. Rebuilt between 2018 and 2020, it now houses a Heritage Interpretation Center on the first floor and a temporary exhibition room on the second floor. Accessible to visitors with disabilities, the Maison de Fer offers a rich cultural program all year round (exhibitions, tours, workshops, shows, guinguettes...)

Personnel très accueillant. Nous avons eu l'occasion de faire la visite des expositions permanente et temporaire (visite guidée). Nous les avons trouvées bien scénarisées et intéressantes.
L'exposition permanente est tout de même un peu trop partiale à mon goût, et vante les mérites de la politique actuelle de la ville. J'aurais préféré une exposition plus neutre car à mon sens la politique n'a pas sa place dans un musée.
