Castle of the XIVth with 2 fortresses, one of the main monuments of the South-West, the museum, the wine storehouse, the bread oven and the dovecote to see
Open to the public since 1956, Roquetaillade Castle is today recognized as one of the flagship monuments of the South-West. An exemplary site, it consists of two fortresses, still furnished and inhabited by the same family for 700 years! The 14th century building, which suffered very little from the wars, was restored in the 19th century by Viollet-le-Duc. Inside, one is dazzled by the brilliance of the Renaissance. One can admire in particular the superb fireplace, the great hall, the great Gothic staircase of the 19th century, the decorations and furniture created by Viollet-le-Duc as well as the kitchen, which is still in use, with its sparkling brass. The castle has also served as the setting for several films, including The Pact of the Wolves. Tours are led by a volunteer guide. The museum still allows visitors to discover country life and its evolution from 1850 to 1950. To the west, there are still some remains of the old castle of the 12th and 13th centuries. A few steps away, a neo-gothic chapel is remarkable. The vineyard replanted in 1988 in front of the entrance of the Château under the name of Château Fort de Roquetaillade, produces AOC Graves wines in red, dry white and sweet white. Groups (by reservation only) can also discover the Metairie with its instruments, its endangered farm animals (Bazadaise cattle, Gascon hens and pigs, Pyrenean donkeys), the wine storehouse, the 12th century dovecote and the bread oven. The Château de Roquetaillade can be the exceptional setting for all your events!

Les deux dames a l'accueil aussi glaciales que la temperature des pièces du château.
Heureusement, avec la visite au pas de course on se réchauffe, parce que ça dépote, pas le temps de regarder qu'il faut déjà passer à la pièce suivante.
Pas d'anecdotes, pour un château occupé par la même famille depuis 700 ans.
Je ne recommande pas et je mets deux étoiles parce que la bâtisse est très belle.
La guide était également au top.
Bref à faire sans hésiter !
Pour les mariés, ce fut un vrai rêve devenu réalité. Et en tant que photographe, capturer l’amour d’un couple dans un décor aussi impressionnant et inspirant a été un vrai privilège.
