GRÈS MÉDOCAINS
Located in Listrac-Médoc, this family-run and family-run company has been thriving since 1880. Grès Médocains uses silica-rich clay, extracted in the surrounding quarries to produce their products. She is then worked, wet and formatted. Culinary pottery, plate, pichel, garden pottery, vase and tiles for soils are manufactured here, expressing tradition and know-how. The products are dried before cooking in the oven at 1 298 ° C: the particularity of this clay is that it supports very high bats. These temperatures allow the earth to "close" and thus prevent the subsequent penetration of water. Thanks to this waterproofability, the products benefit from the designation "sandstone" and not terracotta.
In the workshop there is also a wood oven dating back to 1892. This ancestral oven allows you to obtain colorful, sand, pink or flamed colors typical of the Atlantic coast. For cooking hot and shiny shades, gas kilns are used. The company visits by appointment and also offers open workshops open to all. Whether you are curious, beginner or professional, you can make objects, potteries or sculptures yourself.
