It's a superb Italian-style theatre with 730 seats. The Théâtre de la Madeleine has a remarkable elegance. It was built in 1924 on the site of a horse-riding arena. Sacha Guitry staged many plays here in the 1930s and 1940s, including "N'écoutez pas, Mesdames", as did André Roussin in later decades. The acting couple Simone Valère and Jean Desailly have directed the company. In recent years, Audrey Tautou, Eddy Mitchell, and Roschdy Zem have enjoyed great success.
